Public Agenda Board Member Robert Y. Shapiro Receives AAPOR Award for Exceptional Achievement

May 31, 2022

Public Agenda is proud to announce that Robert Y. Shapiro, board member and Chair of the Audit Committee, was honored by the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) as the 2022 recipient of their Award for Exceptionally Distinguished Achievement at the Association’s annual awards ceremony on May 13, 2022. This award recognizes a lifetime of achievement, and, as an unflagging advocate of both rigorous public opinion research and its applications to advance the public good, there are few more deserving than Bob. In receiving this award, Bob also follows in the footsteps of Daniel Yankelovich, renowned social scientist and co-founder of Public Agenda, who received the very same AAPOR award in 2012.

In addition to serving on Public Agenda’s Board of Directors since 2014, Bob has made manifold contributions to the field of political science. For more than 25 years, Bob has served on the Board of Directors of the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research, a part of Cornell University. Bob’s academic tenure also includes his current role as the Wallace S. Sayre Professor of Government at Columbia University, and his scholarly work extends to authorship of several award-winning books, as well as a length of service as the editor of Political Science Quarterly. Bob is also a noted mentor of students and colleagues, and his extraordinary track record of service and volunteerism extends to many other forms of personal and professional advocacy. He is an exemplar of commitment and excellence.

We at Public Agenda are pleased to congratulate Bob for this well-deserved recognition. His expertise, compassion, and collaborative spirit aid us in our mission to strengthen our democracy, and we are grateful for his continuing service.
