In early October, Public Agenda partnered with the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Center for Scientific Evidence in Public Issues (EPI Center) and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) for a webinar to help city officials and other policymakers make informed, evidence-based decisions about policing and public safety.

This conversation put findings from the Public Agenda report America’s Hidden Common Ground on Race and Police Reform in conversation with scientific evidence, academic research and lived experience. The webinar, which can be viewed on YouTube, is the first of many activities focused on promoting safe and equitable communities, and we look forward to working together to help solve these complex issues.

Moderated by Public Agenda’s Quixada Moore-Vissing, the webinar featured three expert panelists: Emily Owens, Professor, Department of Criminology, Law, and Society, University of California Irvine; Michael Sierra-Arévalo, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, University of Texas at Austin; and Walter Katz, Vice President of Criminal Justice, Arnold Ventures. Public Agenda President Will Friedman and AAAS EPI Center Project Director Steve Newell framed the conversation for attendees with an introduction.
