Natural gas reserves are similarly distributed across the globe, but Russia is right up there with the Middle East in terms of possessing the largest shares of proven reserves. The U.S. fares slightly better in this area, with 3.4 percent of proven natural gas reserves, but it’s still minuscule in comparison. As with oil, there is a great movement towards increased exploration of natural gas in domestic offshore areas.
