The United States is the world’s largest consumer of petroleum, but nearly 60 percent of the oil we consume is imported from other countries. The Energy Information Administration projects a decline in our dependence on foreign oil over the next few decades, but it is a slight decrease considering the increase in the amount we’re projected to consume.
