John Immerwahr
John Immerwahr is the author or co-author of numerous Public Agenda national and regional studies on education and children. In addition, with Public Agenda's president and co-founder Daniel Yankelovich, Dr. Immerwahr co-authored several studies of public attitudes toward foreign policy.
Dr. Immerwahr's research for Public Agenda includes:
- Campus Commons? What Faculty, Financial Officers and Others Think About Controlling College Costs;
- Squeeze Play 2009: The Public’s Views on College Costs Today;
- The Iron Triangle: College Presidents Talk about Costs, Access, and Quality; and
- Lessons Learned, Issue No. 3: New Teachers Talk About Their Jobs, Challenges and Long-Range Plans: Teaching in Changing Times.
Dr. Immerwahr is also a professor of philosophy at Villanova University, where he was previously Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and prior to that, was chair of the Philosophy Department. He is the founder and director of TeachPhilosophy101.org, a web site featuring resources for philosophy professors. He has published widely in the field, with a focus on 18th century philosophy, in particular the work of David Hume, in addition to a number of articles on teaching philosophy.
Dr. Immerwahr serves as vice chairman of the board of trustees for the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research and is a member of the national advisory board for the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). He received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Michigan, and his B.A. from Princeton University.
