Completion by Design
Helping Community Colleges Better Serve Students
Completion by Design is an initiative, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, that works with community colleges to significantly increase completion and graduation rates for students. Public Agenda is a partner in this effort across all three participating states: Florida, North Carolina and Ohio. Our role is to:
- Partner directly with participating community colleges to help them engage institutional leaders, faculty and staff in the design and implementation of practices and strategies that will boost student completion.
- Build the capacity of participating community colleges to convene and facilitate productive dialogues with faculty, advisers, department chairs, deans, provosts, institutional researchers and others. We have trained and provided technical assistance to facilitators throughout the initiative.
- Develop practical guides to assist collegesí efforts to implement, evaluate and scale transformations that have been successful in increasing community college completion
- Conduct research to explore and share lessons learned from Completion by Design colleges to the broader field of higher education.
As part of this project, we work with community colleges in Florida, North Carolina and Ohio. Other partners in the effort include the Community College Research Center, the RP Group, Jobs for the Future, MDRC and WestEd. Read more about the effort at the Completion by Design website.
