Talk It Over: Ask Public Agenda

Childcare - Child development and working parents

By rebekahroddam on November 4, 2010

Children are put in daycare, have an in-home care giver, while parents are at work to support their families.
Childcare costs have been continuously raising, government has been cutting assistance to subsidize costs and families work-life balance has become increasingly difficult.

Families need childcare because they are working! Studies have found that around 3% of organizations offer some type of childcare program for their employees.
The need to have employers come along their employees is great. We need to hold our organizations accountable towards the needs of American citizens.

We have been faced with many issues in these times, but if we need to remember that the children, who are now, will be the leaders of our future. If they are not provided for now and made a priority, how are we expecting them to raise with confidence.

I understand that the government has been doing what they can to help, I am asking for accountability to be given to organizations who demand their employees to invest into their efforts. Why are they not expected to invest into what is being given up in order for their employees to be able to invest into their organizations?

This is one of the wealthiest nations, yet we continue to provide for our shareholders and work to exceed our last years profits. We need to realize that these results will naturally manifest when we have our priorities in order and invest into the greatest efforts; the employees, who create the opportunity for our revenues to grow. Everyone wants to know they are cared for and what matters to them, matters to someone else.

If organizations were responsible for assisting with the childcare needs of their employees, they would not only see a high return on investment but they will also create a cultural shift that will motivative their employees to increase productivity and loyalty.
