About four in 10 say they have a gun in their home, and two-thirds of those who own a gun say they use it for protection against crime

Public Agenda helps communities and the nation
solve tough problems through:
Research that illuminates people's views & values;
Engagement that gets people talking, learning from each other and working together on solutions; and
Communications that spreads the word and builds momentum for change.
By doing so, we seek to contribute to a democracy in which problem-solving triumphs over gridlock and inertia, and where public policy reflects the deliberations and values of the citizenry.

This post was written for the 20 community colleges participating in Completion by Design, a five-year Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation initiative that aims to significantly increase completion rates for low-income students under 26. As a “National Assistance partner” for Completion by Design, Public Agenda provides direct assistance to the colleges to help them build capacity for solutions-oriented dialogue among faculty, staff and administration. Here, Public Agenda's Alison Kadlec discusses best practices for authentic internal stakeholder engagement. While the post is geared toward Completion by Design planning teams, the principles are useful for any authentic engagement process.

Far too often, throughout our work in the education field, we've seen even the most earnest and promising ideas from experts and reformers for improving schools and ramping up student learning met with confusion, anxiety or even anger from teachers, parents, students or community members.

i feel that people shouldnt be allowed to have guns in their homes because if they have a gun in their homes their children can get it and cause harm to someone else. if they have teenagers in their homes they can get the gun and cause alot of violence with it like robbing stores taking it to schools or robbing banks so i feel that all gun should be banned and if there is some kind of violence it shouldnt be handled with guns and people should find other ways to deal with their problems
What if something happend in the U. S. like invasion from a foreign country? then what? with out guns americans won't be able to pretect them selves.
i feel that the subject of having guns in our homes is very debatable. But i also feel that it is important to have some type of protection in our homes. We need to realize that just because we have children in our homes does not mean that they are going to find them and shoot someone, and our teenagers yes there has been issues with violence and school shootings but maybe if parents would notice problems before they get out of hand that would no longer be a threat or problem .... no i dont think your way of thinking is wrong i just think you should view all of the sides first before you make your decisions........
Yes you have a point, but parents/gun owners can buy child locks and put them on their guns to prevent anything like that from happening. Yes once they get oder they're going to know how to remove them, but they if you can buy a gun safe. Put your guns in there and then you have nothing to worry about. There are so many things you can do to prevent that from happening. Otherwise if you can't afford a gun safe and you have teenagers and feel you can't trust them with guns in the house then yes, get rid of your guns.
there has always been a good saying, guns do not kill people, people do. If you think that americans should not have guns at home, then they should not be allowed to have knives either. And If parents teach their children gun control and safety, it reduces the chances of something bad happining. When I was a teenager I loved Shoting guns and owning them. Young people can use safe gun control.
for on, guns are required to be in a safe or a lock box. two, you are saying that all children and teenagers are naturally violent and that they all want to steal our guns and use them to hold up liquore stores. the american people have that right to defend theur homes from forein and domestic dangers. for example - a drunk bum breaks into my home with a weapon (a knife, bat, club, broken bottle, all just as dangerous and violent as a gun) this man has intent to steal and harm my family and I. Do i not have the right to stop this man by any means necessary? try explaining to a drunk bum that its not ok for him to attack your family with a lethal weapon and see how that works...
amen man that exactly what i think we should have guns but know how to use them meaning dont be a dumbass n do anything stupid
guns are ok people just need to lock them up and keep them away from children
