San Francisco Braces for Olympic Torch Protests

Security is tight in San Francisco today as authorities brace for protests targeting the only U.S. stop on the Olympic torch run. Protests have dogged the torch run as groups use the upcoming Beijing Olympics to attack China's policies on human rights and Tibet.

Surveys find Americans have distinctly mixed views on China, and many admit they don't know a lot about the country. Polls taken this year show that Americans believe China is the world's leading economic force now and will be in the future. But our Confidence in U.S. Foreign Policy Index finds that about 30 percent of Americans say they worry a lot about the growing power of China, far below other foreign policy issues like Iraq, energy and immigration.
