One Sure Fact About the Anthrax Attacks

The suicide of an Army scientist may mean that we'll never know the whole story about the anthrax attacks of 2001. Amid all the speculation, there's one thing we can say for sure: whoever was responsible for the attacks had a major impact on public opinion. Surveys show the American public's fear of terrorism peaked in October 2001. With the anthrax attacks spread through the U.S. mail and coming on top of 9/11, six in 10 Americans said they were personally worried about being a victim of terrorism.
