Federal Stimulus Rebates to be Sent This Week

By Scott Bittle on April 28, 2008

The IRS will start sending out the "stimulus" rebates designed to boost the flagging economy this week. Single taxpayers will get a maximum of $600, while families will get up to $1,200.

The rebates come as surveys show the public with a decidedly negative view of the economy. Gallup reports that 44 percent rate the current economy as "poor" and 86 percent say the U.S. economy is getting worse. Some 49 percent say their own personal financial situation is getting worse, the highest number this decade.
