Public Policy & The Public Mood

Is the public in the midst of a fundamental change of attitude, becoming so partisan that working together on public policy solutions is less and less likely? Pioneering social scientist Daniel Yankelovich, chairman and co-founder of Public Agenda, doesn't think so. Speaking at the Maxwell School/Public Agenda Policy Breakfast, Yankelovich said the public is experiencing a wave of mistrust, frustration and anger like those during the 1950s McCarthy era and the late 1970s. This mood, said Yankelovich, will pass - but probably not until fears about the economy recede.
