Barack Obama Gets A Running Start

Within hours of his inaugural address, President Obama halted prosecutions at Guantanamo Bay, following up two days later with an order to shut down the facility. Other early Obama moves include: a pay freeze for senior White House aides, tough new rules on lobbying, meetings with his economic and military advisers, and phone calls to leaders in the Mideast. The Senate meanwhile confirmed Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State and grilled Treasury Secretary nominee Tim Geithner, as the House put strings on the bailout.
